What is professional supervision?
Supervision is support and mentoring specifically focused on your counselling practice. As your supervisor, I assist you to monitor your professional well-being, guide you with case queries or dilemmas, concerns and client-related issues such as transference and counter-transference, burn out, feeling "out of your depth", imposter syndrome, overwhelm and other challenges or areas requiring exploration that can appear in the course of your career.
Supervision also helps you to better understand your scope of practice, code of conduct and other professional requirements, as well as ongoing professional development (OPD), theories and new practices, and changes in the industry. Supervision is an essential adjunct to your OPD, ongoing education and wider reading in the field and allows a safe space to discuss career-specific points as they arise.
My supervisees tell me that, with my help, they don't feel so alone in their practice, as supervision provides a 'safety-net' of career-specific support. A space to speak openly about challenges and dilemmas with an experienced professional.

It is important that you feel supported and understood by your supervisor and that you 'gel' with them. A strong and supportive alliance can then be formed, so you can maximise the value of your supervision hours.
